"Holding On"

I expect you have sometimes been amused when the travelling in the "Tube," or on a bus, to see passenger who is standing fall into the lap of another who is seated, when the vihecle makes a sudden start or stop. This person was not "holding on" to the strap or hanger provider, and therefore, when the sudden movement came they were, more or less helpless, and found themselves seated on somebody's knees.

Many people are very fond of climbing high hills, precipitous rocks and mountains, these folk are often very pleased to find a projecting rock, or a sturdy bush which they can "hold on" to, when their feet begin to slip. When we toil up to the top of a high tower, and having reached the top, llok down at the ground, very many feet below, we begin to feel dizzy, and feel much more secure when we find something to which we can "hold on."

We need to learn how to "hold on" in life. Nothing is more valuable than good character—we need to "hold on" to this. We can be robbed of our money and goods, but no one can take goodness from us; but to make progress we must hold tightly to good character, even when the going is hard.

Men tried to change the purpose and character of John Bunyan, but he "held on" and remained a true saint of God.

The greatest scholars are those who have "held on" to their reading and studies. The master musicians only become great because they "held on" to constant study and practice. In all departments of life we must "hold on" if we wish to meet with success. We must stick to our studies and work, never give in nor get down­hearted and disappointed.

We are climbing all through life. At times we shall find steep and slippery places, where it will be difficult to climb, and we shall be in danger of slipping backwards. Let us always remember that there is One who has climbed the upward road before us, and is willing to come to us and help us climb.

"Hold on" by faith to Jesus, and you will be able to reach the "mountain-top" of holiness. You will never slip back if you "hold on" to the "strong Son of God."
