Watches
What a nuisance it is when our watches go wrong! Think again, is it not wonderful that such small pieces of mechanism keep good time. There are quite ordinary sized watches which not only show the time, but also chime each quarter, as well as the hours. Some even show, in a little opening on the dial, the various phases of the moon. How clever is all this.
We know, however, that if one thing goes wrong, especially if it be the main spring, the watch is useless. When our watches go wrong, we do not take them to the carpenter or plumber, but to the watchmaker, because he knows all that there is to know about the watch and its works.
The Bible tells us that we are all fearfully and wonderfully made, and that we are God's workmanship, yet, sad to say, we can, and do, "go wrong."
The most important part of a watch is the main spring, and if this goes wrong the whole watch is wrong and useless. Some boys and girls do many wrong things—they are not truthful, not reliable, they are deceitful and selfish. They have "gone wrong," and like a watch that is out of order, cause much trouble and annoyance. What is the matter with these boys and girls? Why, the main spring—the heart—is wrong. They cannot put this right themselves, neither can their parents, nor their teachers. There is only One who can, and that is their Maker, God. If any of you boys and girls have "gone wrong," go at once to your Heavenly Father and pray very earnestly: "Create in me a clean heart, 0 God, and renew a right spirit within me."
He understands all about us, because He made us, and knows all our weaknesses and failings, and has promised to help all who call on Him in faith. He also knows how we are tempted by Satan to "go wrong," for "He was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin." He died to save us from our sins, and all who truly believe on Him receive full forgiveness, and "their sins are remembered against them no more."
