What is a Saint?
A certain Sunday School teacher had been endeavoring to explain to her scholars that a saint was one who truly loved and followed God. At the close of the lesson the teacher, in an effort to discover how much the children had "taken in," asked the question: "What is a saint?" At once a little girl volunteered the answer: "Please, Miss, it is a man that the light shines through." The teacher, a little puzzled by the answer, questioned the child further, and discovered that the little girl, from the position in which she sat in Church, could see the sun shining through the figure of a saint in a stained-glass window.
How true, however, this description is? A saint is one whom the light of God shines through to others! If we really love and follow the Lord Jesus Christ, and "try His works to do," His light will shine through us to others. He has said: "Let your light so shine, that men may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in Heaven." The hymn which we often sing in Sunday School tells us that "Jesus bids us shine with a clear pure light." "You in your small corner and I in mine"
So we can all be little people that the light shines through, if we love Jesus with all our might and all our heart. In our daily prayers let us ask God to so help us that His pure light may shine through us to others.
