Are You Missing the Fun?
Said the robin to the sparrow,
"I should really like to know
Why these anxious human beings
Rush around and worry so."
Said the sparrow to the robin,
"Friend, I think that it must be
That they have no heavenly Father
Such as cares for you and me!"
What a lot of fun we miss by fretting and fussing over things that we cannot help. Worry can make us as sick as food that disagrees with us. It can give us aches and pains just as real as if we fell on a cobblestone street. A person who wouldn't think of eating or drinking something harmful will get just as ill and used up by worrying needlessly.
The Bible tells us again and again not to worry. The people who talked to God and heard his voice tell us that worry is both wrong and useless.
It is wrong because it points out the fact that we do not trust God enough. He has promised those who believe and trust in him that he will watch over them and protect them. Just as he cares for his creatures in nature, he cares for those whom he has made so much like himself. He gave us the ability to commune with him.
Worry is useless because it doesn't change a thing except to make the one worse who is worrying. It takes away our strength and our will to do what we can for others.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit, oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
