Be Sure God Can Do Miracles

In 1833 the scientist Charles Darwin found the people of Tierra del Fuego the lowest types in the human race he had ever seen. He said that these people were below domestic animals in intelligence or in their ability to become civilized.                                                                         

Darwin returned thirty-six years later and he could hardly believe his own eyes. Christian missionaries had been at work on the island. Darwin remarked that he would never have believed that all the missionaries in the world could accomplish what a few had done among those people. He asked to become an honorary member of the London Missionary Society and gave generously.     

The gospel message of Christ has performed miracles all over the world in changing the lives of people from savagery to the ways of civilized men and women. What Darwin discovered is what Christians had already known for centuries, but it was good to hear the great scientist say what he had discovered for himself.                                          

We live so close to God's miracles and wonders all the time that we don't give them very much thought. The Good News of Jesus Christ is almost like a weather report to us who have been born into and grown up with it all around us. We just accept it when it suits us and don't give it very much thought one way or another.                         

We need to stop once in a while and count the blessings we would not have if it were not for the fact that Christ came to reveal God to us. Because of him we have schools, colleges, hospitals, research laboratories, and the freedom to search for new things. We should repeat with Paul: "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth" (Romans 1:16).
