How Much Do You Weigh?

If you are a normal, healthy boy or girl you are quite able to walk, run, jump, and move about without even thinking about your weight. Your weight is a part of you that you accept because your strength is equal to it and can easily carry you.

But if you lift a bundle or carry a basket, your weight suddenly changes, doesn't it? If you carry the thing in your arms in front of you, you have to change your position and even walk a little differently to make up for the change. That is true also when you carry something on your shoulder, back, or head. It just isn't so easy and so natural as when you walk without a burden at all.

The Psalmist said, "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved" (Psalm 55:22).

God expects us to be balanced at all times. If we carry a bundle we are unbalanced physically. If we are burdened with worry or are unduly anxious about someone or something, then our lives are thrown out of balance. We become spiritually overweight.

There are two kinds of worries. One kind we can do something about. We can ask God to help us on this kind. The other is the kind we cannot do anything about. This is the one we can cast upon God. Then he will see us through it.

But, you ask, isn't that the easy way out? Sure it is. That's the way God tells us to do it. Some ask, Is it right to use God that way? He tells us to. What is a better way than God's way? God has not promised us a life free from trouble, but he offers us his help every minute of the day. So, if you are overweight with burdens, cast them upon God—at his invitation.
