"I'd Give Anything!"

How many times have you heard someone say, I'd give my right arm for a chance to go into
space"? Or, "I'd give anything just to be head majorette." These are pretty bold statements to make, but there just happen to be some things in this world—or on the moon—that we believe we would be willing to make sacrifices for.

Jesus told two stories about men who found what they wanted, and they were willing to give anything to get them (Matthew 13:44-46). One man knew of a field with a hidden treasure in it. The other one saw a beautiful pearl for sale. Both men gave all that they owned to get the things they wanted.

It is a wonderful thing to know what you want and to be able to go right out and get it. But how many people can you think of that honestly and truly know what they want? Not very many. Have you ever thought you wanted something so badly that you felt you would simply die if you didn't have it? Like a new bike, a sports jacket, or an invitation to a very special party or picnic? Then, after you got it, didn't you soon discover that it wasn't so "super" after all?

Jesus offers his followers something that lasts forever. And the longer we keep it the more we enjoy it. That is the opportunity to know God. Once we begin to know him new treasures and new thrills will be bobbing up all the time.

Once we begin to understand how great God's kingdom is there will be no end to our happiness. And the better we know him the less important other things we thought we wanted will become.

Give yourself to God, and you will never want for anything you cannot have.
