It Starts with Me

The Murrays had never visited a large city before, so their first trip to New York was an eye-opener. The first day Joyce and Mark kept looking for someone they knew. Surely out of all these people, they thought, we ought to find one familiar face. And of all the thousands they met, they could look at only one face at a time.

Each crowd, every line of people, every stadium full of spectators is made up of individual people. Each person has his own history, his own fingerprints, face, or something else that sets him apart from everyone else. Every crowd I am in contains "me." I am in the center of the crowd no matter where I sit or stand.

The world is getting very crowded. Amusement parks are jammed with fun seekers. We have to form lines to visit historic shrines that were once in a wilderness. Even our national parks have traffic problems. Highways are jammed bumper to bumper on holidays. Every one of these people is "me" to himself.

What makes me different? My relationship to God. God loves us all, but he has a special corner in his great heart for me. He knows me. My devotions, my prayers, my thoughts and hopes are all heard and known by him. He knows and loves ME.

I start to count the stars. I thrill at the beauty of the sunset. I hear the music of the raindrops. I lift my head when I hear the song of a bird. All these things happen to me—they are my own private experience. God formed me the way I am. Christ died for me. Everything I see, hear, do, or think is done by me.

Thank you, God, for me.
