"Let the Truth Shine Through"
Abbie was using her study period with all her might and will to get her homework finished before the final bell rang, ending school for the day. This was the afternoon her Scout troop was making a trip to the museum, and she didn't want a lot of unfinished school work hanging over her head. They were to leave right after the three o'clock bell.
Joan, thinking all was clear, leaned across the aisle to remind Abbie that she was to go with them in her mother's car. But all was not clear, and the teacher scolded Abbie for annoying Joan and told her she could remain for an hour after school as a reminder not to bother people again in the near future.
Abbie was crushed. She had counted on this trip for weeks. Now it was all over, down the drain, in the twinkling of an eye; and it wasn't her fault, either. Wily didn't Joan admit to the teacher that it was not Abbie who was at fault here and clear it all up?
What was Abbie supposed to do under the circumstances? What would you have done? Tell on Joan and have her miss the trip instead? Or just fight back the tears and take your punishment? Well, that is what Abbie decided to do.
After school, when all had left, and the room seemed deathly still, Joan's mother came in leading a frightened daughter. Joan told the teacher what had happened. And when the teacher got the story straight she told Joan she would postpone the punishment until a later date so that Joan wouldn't miss the trip.
Things have a way of working themselves out. When you are in the right, sit tight and pray for God's truth to come through. It will, and no one will get hurt.
