Let's Go Inside

Many people feel that almost all the excitement has gone out of living. The coast to coast trail of the old covered wagon that took many months to jog along is now traveled in an hour or two by jet airliner. All the high mountains have been climbed. The deepest parts of the ocean have been explored. All that seems left to do is to make things bigger and faster.

Not so, says Sir John Hunt, the conqueror of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. Sir John claims that there is no end of excitement in the exploration of the land of prayer. Our relation to God is still our greatest mystery. Anyone who really wants to do something heroic can spend his life exploring prayer. We will someday have to look into ourselves for the mystery of the universe.

Back in the year 333 B.C. the thirty-year-old Alexander the Great felt that he had done all there was to do and he died thinking he had seen and done all. We've learned differently since then. Yes, there is still much more to learn about the world we live in. But there is much more that we need to know about ourselves and how we fit into this world.

We still haven't learned how nations and peoples can live together without fighting. Some people have too much to eat while there are millions who have never known what a full stomach feels like. The person who will teach the world to follow Christ will be a greater benefactor than the man who uses the atom.

During your devotions take a good look at yourself. Ask yourself what you are doing to bring God and man together. The peace of the world begins in each soul.

Give me your peace, O Christ, and help me to pass it on to others.
