Protective Coloring

Nature has a way of giving shades and colors to her creatures that resemble or imitate their surroundings. This makes it hard for other creatures to see them. It is the only protection that some of them have against others who would kill them for food or just for the sake of killing.

During World War II many Jews fled from Germany into Denmark. They mingled with the Danes, and an outsider could not tell a Dane from a Jew. This was for protection against the Nazis. The German armies later conquered Denmark, and the persecution began all over again. The Nazis ordered that all Jews wear armbands bearing the Star of David so that they could be singled out for arrest and humiliation. They set a deadline when the armbands should appear.

When the morning of the day dawned for the wearing of the six-pointed Star of David, lo and behold, the Christian king of the brave little country appeared first on the streets wearing a Jewish armband. Soon the streets were flooded with people wearing the Star of David on their arms—both Christians and Jews.

The true Christian walks alongside the downtrodden and oppressed. Jesus, the Son of God, could have made the earth his footstool, but he chose to lay his head on the ground with the homeless and poor. He made himself one of the poor and the needy and he told the rich that they, too, were in great need. They were in need of a feeling of oneness with their fellow man. They needed God's love as well as his wealth.

What mark do you bear showing that you are a part of the Christian world?

Ask God to give you a mark setting you apart as his.
