So Nice to Have Around

Just what kind of person are you, anyway? Are you always ready to go when the gang stops by? Or do you have to know all their plans before you decide? If you join the crowd do you go along with them on what they've planned, or do you try to change everything just because you consented to join them? Must you have your own way?

If you are one that always holds back, trying to push your ideas on the others or finding fault with their plans, you could become very unpopular. But if you are cheerful and agreeable they will be happy to include you in everything they do.

Now there are people who would like to be agreeable but they are actually afraid to be! Imagine that. They are afraid that their friends will think them wishy-washy pushovers unless they put up an argument or act just a little difficult. They believe that it is a sign of weakness to be agreeable. Don't you believe it!

An agreeable person is not a weakling. He is strong. Not only is he strong within himself, but he has friends who will come to his aid when needed. And, too, it is the Christian way to be pleasant and agreeable. Of course he can have his own ideas. But he expresses them only for the good of others and not just to hear himself talk.

No one pushes a good Christian into doing something he doesn't want to do. Neither will he be branded as a “stubborn mule" for standing up for what he believes is right. The prophet Amos said a lot of things about getting along with people when he asked the question: "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3).

Dear Lord, make me the kind of person people like because I try to be the kind of person you like.
