What Did Jesus Do?
Read Philippians 2:6-10
When you finished reading the Scripture passage suggested above did you have the feeling of not knowing any more than before you began to read it? Well, now, read it again after the explanations given below and see if it doesn't make more sense. It is really a five-verse life of Jesus written by Paul.
Verse 6 answers the question: Where did he come from? He came from God, because he is God and he did not think it was wrong to admit what he really was. He was God and with God from the beginning.
Verses 7 and 8 tell us how he came down to earth. He allowed himself to begin life as a baby. He had to learn to crawl, stand, walk, and run like the rest of us. When he touched something hot, it burned him. When he cut his finger it bled. His stubbed toe got black and blue just like his playmates'. He had to obey his parents and do jobs around home just like any other boy. He lived like a servant, serving his fellow men. He died like a criminal.
Verse 9 means that God lifted him high because he allowed himself to be humble Jesus was obedient both to his earthly parents and to God and was richly rewarded.
Verse to tells us that because he did all these things that God wanted him to do, everyone holds the name of Jesus Christ in deepest respect both in heaven and on earth.
Of course, Jesus did much more, but these few verses give us a good outline to help us understand what Christ did for us. Watch for these parts of his life as you read about him in your Bible.
Help me, O God, always to allow your spirit to speak to me when I read your Word. Help me to find the message.
