Where Are You Going?
There was a standing joke in the Miller family that if their old car was started up and headed toward Grandfather's farm it could make the trip by itself.
One day, though, when the Millers piled into the car for the familiar trip they were not prepared for what was ahead. About halfway to the farm they came to a road sign informing them that the bridge ahead was being repaired and that they would have to take another road. So they took the back dirt road around the bridge. They passed through country they had never seen before.
Even though they knew they were headed in the right direction, some of the family were sure they were lost. They refused to enjoy the new and beautiful scenery because they didn't know exactly where they were. But Mr. Miller followed the signs and soon they were back on the main road again. They arrived safely at their grandfather's place none the worse for their experience.
Don't you sometimes wonder just where you are, why you are where you are, and what you should do about it? We all do. Sometimes life seems so useless. But there is a reason for our being here, and life has a use and a purpose. We are here because God put us here to help make the world better. Our goal is to find our way back to God through serving him by helping others.
Paul wrote to the people of Ephesus, "Wherefore, be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is" (Ephesians 5:17). That means that we are to walk as though we were sure of every step because God is guiding us.
Thank you, God, for the opportunity to live here with you. Help me to enjoy every minute of it.
