You Can Trust Him

"He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death" (Job 12:22).

Have you ever taken a trip through one of those wonderful limestone caves in our Southern mountains? If you have, you are carrying some wonderful memories of a very unusual and fearful experience. If you have not been in one you have a treat in store for you.

Absolutely necessary for any trip through these fantastic caverns is a guide. He is trained to lead you to where the most interesting sights are and at the same time to guide you from room to room of the cave in safety. There are places in those caves where one could easily slip into a chasm and never be found again. Without a guide a stranger to the caves would become lost in a matter of minutes in the 'haze of passageways and rooms.

You place your faith in the guide's ability to lead you from place to Place in safety, show you the sights, and lead you safely out again. You probably never have seen him before in your life and may never see him again. But you put your life in his hands and follow him closely through the dark journey.

The cave guide is only one of thousands of people that we must place our faith in as we make our way through life. We trust all unknown and unseen cook when we eat in a restaurant. We trust the bus driver, engineer, or airline pilot when 'We travel—and yet they are total strangers. We trust them because we trust the companies for whom they work. They have a good name, and so we trust their employees.

I am glad that there are people in this world I can trust, dear God, though I have never seen them. You have made this faith in them possible, and I thank you.
